There is hypocrisy there. If you raise your child to believe in these stories, then what's the problem with showing them in graphic detail? They are violent stories. Crucifiction sucks. However, the crucifiction is one of the central events that form the base of this faith. The cross is the most enduring symbol of the Christianity. What do want your kids to think Jesus did on that cross? Isn't the whole point that he suffered horribly? Don't you think children have any imagination? Why is it okay to describe Jesus' ordeal in graphic detail to our children, but it is not okay to let them see a representation on film?

By the way, if it were anyone but Jesus that was being tortured for two whole hours, I think this movie would be laughed out of theatres or, at the very least, considered a curiosity. Jesus was just a man, and so, as an atheist, it is really hard for me to take the movie seriously. A lot of people were crucified and I suppose it was very unpleasant for all of them. Jesus had some good ideas. I liken him to a Martin Luther King or a even a Michael Moore (braces for onslaught). Jesus was a trouble maker - if you were a person in a position of authority and power. This is why he was crucified. Don't forget why he was crucified! He looked out for the interests of the common man, and the common man listened. He had influence. He was viewed as a threat by both the roman and jewish authorities.

I could go on. It is beyond irony how close-minded christians are - how conservative they are - how exclusionary they are - how full of hate and zealotry - everything Jesus was NOT.
