Nope, I did not follow the link (my bad) but now that I've gone I consider it even less accurate than I had assumed. According to the same poll you quoted 40-45% of the American public goes to church during the week. If you've ever been on the road on a Sunday morning you know full well that 45% of the population is not going to church - those are rush-hour type statistics! The pews would be packed and overflowing! I wish it were so but it isn't.

I know my 2 brothers-in-law would still claim to be Lutheran due to heritage.

True statistics would look at actual church attendance, not on membership nor on what the person says in a poll. When our church looks at our attendance numbers we do not look at baptized members or communicant members - we look at weekly attendance numbers. That tells you who you are reaching and who really is a part of your church and your faith.

BOB: If the same question were asked of the folks you mention I suspect they'd end up in the None or Undesignated columns.

I know my 2 brothers-in-law would still claim to be Lutheran due to heritage. I doubt the other two would, you are right. Still, that gives you a figure of 50% from a group that really should be 0%.
