You could be right. I haven't seen the numbers on Tithing during the depression, but, I'll take your word for it. However, our church does not preach "Tithe or you go to hell" messages. Tithing should flow naturally out of a heart committed to God and His work in a particular church or parachurch organization. The bottom line truth is, some people do not tithe when money is tight. What do you think the lowest tithe month of the year is? January -- credit card payments take precedent.

Overall, perhaps a dumb way to show signs of an improving economy. But, here's another. I passed a billboard in Chattanooga, TN yesterday. It said, "2600 New Companies every year in the Scenic City." That's a sign. Both literally and figuratively.

And, I go back to what I said in another post. It is not the Presidents or even the gov'ts job to create jobs. Jobs are being cut because of productivity. Americans are too good at what they do. Therefore, it takes less people to do a job. Someone is going to be left out.

A personal example. I am about to step out of a full time ministry position to finish my education. I make decent money at this church, it pays the bills. But, when I leave, it is my responsibility to find a job. I will not blame my Governor or George Bush if I cannot find one.
