Why?

It would have been wrong to do a pre-emptive strike against Hitler, but not to have fought WWII after he started it.

The easiest way to get rid of Saddam would be to be nice to Iraq. The people there don't want him; if there was peace, they would not need him and would get rid of him themselves. So long as we are aggressive and keep threating war, then they NEED a warmonger leading them, so the people will keep him... or someone just like him should we manage to make him dead.

Should Saddam actually attack someone, then war is justified... if we fight first, then he is completely justified in defending himself - and if he uses weapons of mass destruction... well, we forced his hand, didn't we?

The situation now is not analogous to WWII.
