Anyway, the point of my little commentary was that different cultures act differently in public. Americans are louder. So what? Black Americans are loudest of all. So what? That makes us arrogant because we don't do as the Romans do when we are in Rome? Perhaps MVD would make Dawn walk 5 paces behind him when he visits Arabia? Would he cover his head with a Yamilka at the Wailing Wall in Jerusalem? Would he remove his hat at a public prayer?

I had a guest lecturer at a Western European politics class from Holland once. he said something like this in reaction to those who idealize foreign cultures (paraphrase), "People hear that I'm from one of those little, cute European countries and they go on and on about how charming we are and how we are so fantastic - they don't realize that a lot of people in our country are just like everyone else you meet in the world - a bunch of assholes."
