It is unfortunate that Mr. Anderson's Conan is the first Conan you ever read. If anything might kill a desire to read about this fabulous character, that book would do it.

I would suggest reading the following stories if you ever care to pick up a Conan story again. All of the following are Robert E. Howard stories.

The People of the Black Circle
The Hour of the Dragon
(also published as Conan the Conquerer)
Red Nails

I do hope you pick up one of the above stories to read. If you like Cowboy and Indian style stories, you might like "Beyond the Black River" (also written by Howard) which pits Conan against the Picts in a very Western style story.

All the above stories can be found on eBay very cheaply in hardcovers bearing the same names (usually around $5 -10 each). I would also be happy to loan out my copies to you.

Again, I am a bit depressed that "Conan the Rebel" was your first Conan story. Yuck. There are worse Conan books out there (largely published by Tor Books), but not many.
