Subject: A Doctor Who Question

Considering Who's many incarnations and the fact that he has travelled extensively and seen much, how then can he remain such a dunderhead? I watched an episode last night, and was amazed and deflated to see how stupid Who was! I mean, could the writers not think of more ingenious ways to get him into a predicament than having him go fishing while his assistant went out alone an unarmed to be captured by thugs? It was ridiculous! Now, I love the character of Doctor Who, don't get me wrong, and some of the episodes are quite good, but why? Why? I have not seen that many episodes. Please tell me the writing improves and Who isn't always such a blunderer!
