I believe the episode you are writing about is "The Androids of Tara." The episode begins really with a longer-standing story in the background. His companion is Romana (I), who, when she met the Doctor, acted like she was the next best thing the Time Lords ever produced. He was originally wanting to go on a vacation/holiday, and that continues within this episode.. he thinks if she is so great, she can handle the situation with no problem, while he can go back on his vacation.
