My mate Rowdy boy

Sahwira Ishinga.
Nov 1995 - Dec 2004.

I lost my mate yesterday. He was the first RR I had owned and he was my mate. Rowdy and I used to shuffle off to dog shows, both of us teaching each other how it was and wasn't done as we learnt together. He was a pain to some cause he just loved me so much that I couldn't leave him ringside at all. He would cry because he missed me. And was noisy about it too...LOL

So he and I decided he would be our mate at home where he was always at the door with a laugh and a grin and a bark. He played with my hubby Dean and was very obedient, well most of the times. He told us who he loved and who he didn't but there wasn't many people he didn't love. I remember him curling on the couch with my kids snuggling in tight and when he got sick which was often he would come inside and we would all curl up on my bed.....

The memories of the love and fun and everything he gave us are flooding in my mind right now. Tis hard to believe he is gone.

About 3 weeks ago, we thought he had hurt his back so we went to the vet and the x-rays came back with something far worse. He had a tumour - a large one - growing under his spine. It wasn't bone cancer but a tumour that had attached itself to under his spine, growing in such a way that it was growing into his diaphragm and around his spine. Or it would eventually do that. As we were unsure of how fast it was growing, we took him home for palliative care. But in the last week, he deteriorated so much so we made the decision yesterday. Christ I swear even though you know it is the best for him and it is all about him, it is the hardest thing to do whilst your own heart is breaking. But the tumour was fast growing and he was not able to stay. He tried as each day he would try and play and lick and love us but he and I both knew time was short.

Farewell Rowdy boy - I love you and I will miss you everyday of my life. I can't wait till we meet again in Rainbow Bridge where you will be waiting for me and mine, with that silly grin in your face and those brown eyes watching with longing and anticipation.
