anytime someone views your page, they use up the bandwidth, so it's kind of a good thing - it might mean your site is very popular!

most of the free hosts allow you to buy more bandwidth - if that's not an option, read on...

anything that's not basic text and such will chew up your bandwidth.

so, if you have tons of images, see if you really need all of them. if the image is bigger than what you are viewing it on the page, then shrink it down (i.e. if the image file is 500x500 pixels, but your page is telling it to show at 100x100 - open the file, change the image size to 100x100 and resave it - it will look better, save time loading, and save bandwidth.)
also, check how it's saved. if it's a photo, it should be in .jpg - quality 6 usually keeps it looking clean (any lower and they tend to distort the quality). if it's a small graphic that only uses a handful of colors a .gif is fine. NEVER use .bmp image files online - not all browsers support them, and they are HUGE!

also, if you have any music, you might get rid of it. that can take up bandwidth too.

another thing you could do, but it can be a pain, is open extra accounts. just be sure that the images you use on the page are on the same account - most free services will put in a logo if you reference a photo from a different site. (i.e. if you're on angelfire, and trying to pull an image off geocities, they'll but an angelfire logo in place of your image - it looks really bad!)
