DEFINITELY save your images smaller.. when an image is 1586x1523, it's filesize is HUGE.. even when you resize it using HTML (which is what frontpage does, even though you don;t do the code yourself) the image still stays at 1586x1523 - so even though it shows up as 300x300 or whatever.. the filesize is still huge.

So open all your images in an image editing program (I used paint shop pro, which you can get a free trial of at Jasc.com) and resize the images to the size you want them viewd at.. no bigger! That will drastically reduce the kb size of your images..

remeber the VISUAL size, and the Kb size of the images are two different things.. you can resize the image within the HTML but it wont reduce the Kb - to do that you need to edit the image.

I thin k the problem of your horizontal scrollig might be YOUR screen size LeAnna. You have it set to 1024x768, right? os I just set my computer to that, and it displays beautifully.. but on 800x600, which is still by far the most common screen resolution, the site goes way off the side..

What you need to do is to set your computer to 800x600 when you are working on the site.. to do this right click on the desktop, and click properties, then seect settings. There is a little slide bar labelled screen area. Move ot 800x600.

Also.. save your photos as JPG and your low colour (like the title, in gif - the files work differently and are suied to certain types - jpg for high colour, and gif for low colour, or with large areas of one colour. Saving as the wrong type can also make file sizes much bigger and drastically reduce the quality.

You can then work o the site the way you would see it on this size screen. The general rule is that you should never have horizontal scrolling when set on 800x600.

One little criticism.. where are the links?? Yeah.. I know, they show up eventually.. but you have to wait ages for them to show up because the title image takes so long to load.. maybe that will change once you have resized the image, but it might be better to just put the text next to the links as normal, rather than having the animated effect.. some people's computers may not be able to view that effect so thay may end up stuck without links.

Also, try to keep all your normal writing to the same foint sizes.. the silhouette links have three different font sizes between them, they should be the same.

The standard size for a font on a webpage is size 3 for times new roman, or 2 for Arial. This makes the text the same size as what is on this message board. Most people tend to avoid making the main textlarger than this as it becomes quite overpowering.

Also noticed the carriage returns on the two left side links.. in Front Page you can get a one line carriage return by typing Shift+Enter, instead of just enter.

Also keep down the number of fonts.. and use only the standard fonts that are common on almost all comouters, they are Times New Roman and Arial, with Verdana and a couple others. Stick to those two and your site will be viewable to all computers the way it was intended.

Titles and such that you want in fancy fonts should be saved as images.

Really.. you have a GREAT start, and a great achievement for your first site. You'll learn a lot more as time goes on.. try searching on Yahoo and other searcxh engines for "web design tips", "web design" etc. You can learn a lot! Also check out your library for web design books.

It may also help to learn some HTML. It really does help, and I would strongly recommend it. It can look scary, but if you find a good book or website about it, it will help so so much. It helps you understand what programs like front page are doing, even if you aren;t coding it yourself.

Things like the Shift+Enter trick to get the one-line carriage return instead of two are related to how the HTML coding works. So even if you just familiarise yourself with the basics, it will help so much. It isn;t as scary as it all seems!

One site I found really usefull when I started out was Annabella's HTML help - http://www.annabella.net/html.html. You might also find mine and ashe's web design section helpful - http://www.irelandsdance.com/web/index.htm and http://www.diochra.com/host/index.html

Good luck!
