Subject: Re netscape, mac and CSS - and other stuff
In reply to: Jenny 's message, "Re: IE vs Netscape problems" on 06:23:45 07/05/02 Fri

I use CSS in the actual page.. not separate style sheets. I use the scroll bar and link effects, and they don't cause any problems on Mac (have checked it!).

Links aren't a problem as long as you still specify link colours in the body tag of the page, otherwsie they will go to the default set by the browser (usually bright blue) in browsers that don't support CSS. The scroll bar obviously doesn't change, but that isn't a problem.

In netscape, the link effects work, but the scrollbar doesn't.

If you want to make sure that the images align correctly in netscape make sure you only use top, middle, bottom, left or right. There are others such as absmiddle & absbottom, but these are I.E. only and will not work on netscape, making your pages go skewif (as I discoved the other day and had to change it on every single page).

The blink tag, which makes text blink on and off won't work in Netscape. But it drives most ppl mad so avoid it anyway.

Table borders can be coloured completely in IE - giving coloured lines around the table instead of the standard grey. In netscape, the table still displays with the grey, but with a tiny line of your specified colour round it, giving it a slight tinge. Opera, another browser (which prides itself on displaying HTML "correctly" without any of the newer gimmisks added to later versions of browsers), doesn't display the colour at all, just leaves it grey.
