Subject: Sounds like that's exactly it... solution inside
In reply to: Ashe 's message, "Re: Thumbnails" on 09:33:47 05/11/02 Sat

What he has done is use the same image file as the thumbnail and the big picture.. so the thumbnail, even though it looks smaller, is actually exactly the same size as the large file (it is the large file) but your internet browser has just squished it into a smaller space. So it makes no difference to the load time wahtsoever.. your machine still has to download the huge file.

He needs to open up all the image files in an image editing program . If he doesn't already have one, he can doanload a free trial of Paint Shop Pro at www.jasc.com

Once the files are open he needs to resize each one so it is smaller, then save it as a different file, prferably something similar to the original so he can tell which small file goes with which big file. For example, if the original, large file was called dress1.jpg the small could be called dress1sml.jpg. Resizing the images so they are physicallyt smaller in cm also makes them smaller in their Kb size, and therefore reduces the download time of the thumbnails

Once he has done this, he needs to change the HTML pages so the thumbnail image is the smaller file, not the large one, and have the small thumb file linking to the large one.

This will work much better, the webpage with all the thumbnails will load much quicker, letting people choose which large files they wish to wait to view.
