Ithink one major one is taking other people's content.. the articles rather than images.. and putting them up on their site with no credit what so ever. I have had someone do it to me with something I had spent hours on.. and have seen other sites taking articles from others.

Sometimes these are honest mistakes made my newbies.. I have emailed a couple of people who have just started sites and taken articles from someone else without credit.. they didn't know about the golden "credit where credit due" rules.. and they'd be off contacting original writers and adding credit links that day!!

But then again.. even when you're starting I do think it is wise to use common sense.. if you wouldn't copy your friends history essay you had to do for homework - then why copy a website article?

Another thing, which isn;t so much a rule, but "should do". Develop your own style. I can remember the very first website I eve attempted (ages ago, and a poor attempt!) I was so impressed by Theresa's humour & wit on Siamsa that I was trying to write like that!! lol.

It didn't work.. I gave up on it before it so much as saw the net.. but some people do try to imitate other sites and fail poorly. Everyone knows who came first, and everyone sees the poor imitation. A much more personal, individual approach works better. It may be harder than using ideas & themes someone else has spent the time developing, but it is more rewarding.
