Subject: neuro appointment update

Hi Everyone

Thought y'all might be interested in my 15 minute neuro visit. I gave him a list of symptoms that has been going on and he looked it over and asked me to tell him what's been going on. So I did (my husband even added to it also). then he hits my knees with a hammer-no reflex- hits my arms with the hammer-no reflexes- has me watch a light, touch my nose with finger with eyes open and then shut, tests my grip strength, presses on my neck and shoulders.

After those EXTENSIVE tests, he goes to his chalk board and explains ms how you have symptoms for awhile than you are ok for a while then it comes back etc( which is what I have been going through).

But, now listen closely guys, because I am having vision problems, dizziness, and face numbness and pins and needles sensation and because of my age, WE CAN RULE OUT MS! Wow, all that in 10 minutes! isn't that AMAZING!

So, being the dumb naive person that I am I ask a very "stupid" question...."Do you think the problem could be in my spine?" Oh, no says the "neuro". He said "If you had come in with just the symptoms of leg and arm problem then I would consider the spine, but with the face numbness and the dizziness and at your age, your mri would have showed definite signs of ms. He says it has to be some kind of "connective tissue disease" but there is a possiblity that it still could be related to lupus or from the lupus family.

So, he says we have two courses of action
1. EMG test..
2. Rheumatologist
because he thinks it "may" be a muscle problem, and it is just a process of elimination, but ms can be definetly ruled out...

I was so mad and upset when I left and of course my husband is having doubts that maybe it is that I have been reading too many symptoms and it is all in my head. and that I should go get the test done and the rheumatogist appt now. but I can't take a whole day off work to drive 45 minutes to a drs appt. instead of giving me a referral to a rheumy close to where I live he wants me to go to his partner. So you know what kind of an exam I will get there!

Sorry this is so long guys but just had to vent. I am in tears now, thank God, my husband isn't here to see me as he would get mad and upset at me again. It is getting to hard to type anymore between the tears so thank y'all for listening.

I really do appreciate all your support and kindness. The one Good thing that came out of this experience is that it only cost me $25.00 and 15 minutes to find out I definitely do not have ms! ISN'T MODERN MEDICINE FANTASTIC!

Bye
Sharron
