I know what you mean. I would insist on 3 visits and want to know why he doesn't leave the dog inside. Since your conscience can not let you leave him for such long stretches don't take any future jobs unless it is the 3 visits. Doesn't sound humane to me and I'd let the owner know the terms for the future. If he doesn't pay for the 3rd visit mark it off to experience and next time you run into a similar situation you will know how to handle it.
