Well, buddy, the money thing is a good point. However, I must tell you that is a big misconception on your part that you need to be insanely rich to travel internationally. There's a reason why college students backpack through Europe. It CAN be done on a really tight budget. I am not made of money, to say the least, in fact you owning your own business and all probably make way more money than me, particularly also because the cost of living in NYC is so completely ridiculous as opposed to other parts of the US. But you know what, i still put money away to go traveling because there's nothing else like it. Once you visit one place you've never been, you just want to see more and more, it's like a drug. Everyone that I know that travels a lot are extremely well rounded people, regardless of their political or religious views. That's all there really is to it.
As for dogs, well, that's a more difficult aspect than the money, in my opinion. My parents haven't traveled almost at all for the 17 years we've had our dog because of the same thing you describe. But you don't need to put them in a kennel, you can have your kids watch them, can't you? I think your kids are of the perfect age where you and your hubby can go somewhere for a few weeks while they can keep an eye on things at home. They're not teenagers anymore, they're adults. So that's totally doable too. Who says all 4 of you have to go, your kids will have plenty of chances to travel on their own after college, so why not just go on a romantic trip with just your hubby?
There are also relatives/friends that can take the dogs for a week or 10 days....I dont know, the point is, there are options for that too.
I honestly think if you have a dream to go to Lebanon, you should do it. It is NOT out of your reach. Can't stress that enough. At least look into it, do some research, see how much it can actually cost. Don't assume it's too expensive for you, that's how people give up on their dreams.
