Well, i wouldn't necessarily qualify it as a chick flick right away. It does make you cry but mainly because of the love story, the "star-crossed lovers that can never last" kind of thing (which is the main parallel of Titanic, actually) I mean, it's sad because they are together for only a point in time, a small number of years, until she starts getting older and he starts getting younger. That can't help tug at your heartstrings. I also dont want to give anything away but it continues being sentimental like that, and the ending... well, forget about it :) They also tied in Hurricane Katrina into it quite beautifully in my opinion.

Funny, my cousin saw it the other night with her hubby and she said it left her "pensive, teary-eyed and horny all at the same time" LOL I gotta say, i felt the first two but horny, i dont know. Althouh towards the end they did an absolutely stunning job of making Brad look like he did circa 91-92 (in T&L and ARRTI), it almost made me gasp, he looked 20 years younger. So perhaps thats where horny came in for her LOL I was just too overcome with wistfulness of it all to feel anything else....
What makes the movie so great to me is all those things that scare us- losing our loved ones, loneliness, aging, the passage of time, it addresses all of it in a pretty profound way.

Anyway, as far as Brad's performance goes, dont get me wrong, he did a great job. His performance was powerful in a subtle way: a look, a reaction, etc. And him and Cate played off each other beautifully. But in light of the scope of the movie itself, the story carried it, i feel, not necessarily any of the actors' performances. Comparing that with Aronofsky's The Wrestler, it's the opposite, that one was carried solely by the performances... So i dont know, i just think there are slightly stronger contenders for Best Actor Oscar this year, that's all. If there weren't, i'd say Brad would've had this in the bag. But i have a feeling it's Mickey Rourke's year. We'll have to wait and see...

I plan to see TCCofBB again on Mon night so i will let you know if i have anything to add :)

Myst
