Good to hear from ya bro.....

I've recently started training a new group back in August and basically it's positional escapes 90% of the time and basic strategy of strike to submission.

The first month is usually Takedowns, escape the mount, guard and side positions.
--This is basically repetition drilling
--During this phase I measure the reaction time
between movements then begin to create chain movements
--Once three or more Chains are created
--We go into one sided drills
(One opponent attacks the other defends)
--Takedowns to Positional control will eventually
dominate all grappling session so it becomes the
cornerstone of our training for the months to follow.
--With a heavy emphasis on remidal drills and coaching.

going live is not the immediate goal, however, if a guy should come in with some background in MMA, BJJ, Wrestling or contact martial arts, we try to go to the point
of his current understanding and progress from there.

As far as Subs go....once a fighter begins to exhibit signs
of control over his opponent, transition (control over himself), and the ability to escape.....we begin to work on
the subs.

Robbie Adams and I use to train under an instructor who fed us alot in terms of submissions and counters but when we started to fight we realized that all of our problems came
from not know what posture to keep, how to escape certian postions and never recognizing the setup.....so once the fighters broke away and began to train one another we mainly focused on Takedowns / Positional dominance and escapes.

Thanks for the reply's Jason and Ses. Tell me more Jason, I am sure Brain asks about this kind of thing anyway, but I am trying to get more people to chime in too.

How long on a given training day would you say you drill one position or positional transition? Such as a side mount escape or basic sweep? And do you favor one for an extended time and rotate them? This can apply for full MMA or Grappling only.
