Wife is out of town and I am bored, so I guess I will give this board another hit with the paddles...CLEAR!!

For you guys who are training guys for MMA, What kind of training split do you like for guys to have? I mean guys who are taking to the training well but have limited combat sports training (no Judo, No boxing/kickboxing, no wrewstling) and want to fight eventually. I am not asking a timeframe, but do you look to a person's specific attributes, try to create a general mold and then take a person in one direction or the other?

Do you focus on striking or ground grappling more? take down defense or ground recovery (accepting a TD and taking guard and getting back up), take downs etc.

When I trained I always tried to split the kickboxing/boxing and ground game. I was ok at both, but had to work alot harder on the standing end to make my confidence as good as it was on the mat(largely due to a brutal ass whipping I took from stepping up in comp level a little too fast, but I always had to learn the hard way). Some people take more to one over the other training and I was wondering how much you guys like to direct new guys energy.

Anyone teaching coaching feel free to respond. Give this sucker a pulse.
