Well folks it is just about complete. Dr. Davidson and myself have been working on opening a 1st class training facility and Chiropractic Practice here in Raleigh. The program is just about done and if this week goes well we should have in 90% of the equipment and hopefully hold the first BJJ class sunday Nov 6th.

We are part of CrossFit and are called CrossFit North Carolina. In the building we will have the Chirporactic practice, BJJ with both Day and evening classes as well as Muay Thai and CrossFit. We are also the only place that you can do Olympic lifting in the triangle and not get thrown out.

We are hoping to have an open house right around the first weekend in December but feel free to come by and check out the facility. I think you guys will really be impressed with all of the work that has gone into the place.

This whole project would not have been possible without the assistance of all the volenteers, Billy D., Tracey, Steve Malloy, Brandon, Dewey, Anthony the mexican and all of the volenteers who have come by at one time or another to help out. Sorry if I forgot anyone.

Once we are open we will be having vaious seminars around lifting and fintess which are open to anyone. We hope to have some awesome BJJ and Muay Thai seminars as well.

Check out the web page ( which is still under construction) www.crossfitnc.com

Look forward to having everyone drop by when they get a chance to check it out.

Looks like a pretty sweet set-up jason. Are you guys moving from RIMA to this location? Congradulations on the new place.

Nice site--looks like a good place to train. I like Crossfit.

From your site: "We know that 95% of all fights end up on the ground"

What is the source of this stat? Thanks.

Ever watch Pride of UFC?I think that stat would be even higher than 95%.

So, the stat is for MMA competition, not self defense/protection?

Oh, and considering I've had Bas at my school 4 times, Randy once, and Frank will be here next year, yes, I've seen a few. ;-)

Have you ever seen Cro-cop, Silva, Lidell, et al? I'd say 100% of fights start standing.

BTW, my point was, is this some arbitrary number, or is there an actual source for it, because I'd like to check it out if so.

well wanderlei is a bjj black belt... cro cop trains with a bjj black belt... and i've seen chuck lose three times because of a lack of grappling skills so maybe those werent the three best examples

What does Silva being a BB, Cro-cop training with a BB, and Lidell's "lack of grappling" (though he was a collegiate wrestler) have to do with anything? Are you telling me most of Silva's, Lidell's, and Cro-cop's fights end on the ground, or the majority of their time in the ring is spent on the ground?

Look, it was a simple question--if you don't know, you don't know. Why does everyone feel the need to defend some position or demonstrate their vast MMA acuity?

Oh, and just for fun, this is the percentage of their fights won by KO or TKO:

Cro cop 70%
Silva 69%
Lidell 59%

Yeah we are pretty proud of the place. It is pretty big. Has an awesome area for training O-lifting, CrossFit, Muay Thai and BJJ.

We are looking to have a grand opening/open house Dec 3rd for anyone who can make it. Would be cool to have folks come out. We are going to have some CF competitions and demonstrations. Muay Thai exhibitions as well as Gracie Self Defense and BJJ. Then we will do some eating. :-)

As for the 95% of fights winding up on the ground was a statistic published by law enforcement officials in California back in the late 80's early 90's and has stuck around since then.

Your right about 99% of all fights start standing but if you watch 2 school kids fight or 2 people fight on the streets once gets popped good he usually clinches and goes for a takedown. But since 99% start standing that is why we have a Muay Thai program. Plus I just like to hit people.

Jason, what time will the grand opening be on Dec 3rd? We are scheduled to have gustavo at our place for a seminar on the 3rd (12noon-3pm). Like to stop by afterwards or something and check it out.

Okay, thanks Jason. I'm familiar with that study (though I think it's flawed since LEOs objective is to cuff someone, which is done more often on the ground.) I appreciate the response. I'll be in Philly that weekend, but I'd love to hear about future MT training opportunities, so keep me informed.

BTW, a friend of mine in Louisville is having Ramon Dekkers out Thanksgiving weekend for some seminars. If anyone's interested, let me know, and I'll get you the info.

Ryan, The study that I read was based on attacks f individuals not on the officers. I may be wrong on this but that was about 8 or 9 years ago that I actually read it.

Guy.....I have not set a time yet but would love to have you guys and Gustavo stop by afterwards. That would really be cool. We should be eating around 4 or so. Who knows. I may just have food all day or something. We are trying to line up some strength coaches from a few ACC colleges and maybe the US national stregth coach to come in a speak as well. That is up in the air right now but are looking forward to having a great time.

I stopped by for the first BJJ class last night. Aside from getting knee barred, it was a good time!

Hope to see a lot of people there on Dec 3rd and beyond. This is really going to be a great training facility.

We are also the only place that you can do Olympic lifting in the triangle and not get thrown out.

Has Powerhouse Gym (downtown Raleigh) closed, then? You could do pretty much any kind of lifting you want there without getting thrown out...

You can do pretty much what you want there but they still aren't happy with guys dumping weights if they miss a lift.
