I think Hicks just bought into the crap that John Hart was spewing. Hart left Cle because they were trying to trim payroll and came to Texas, who had also been trying to trim payroll. There was a concerted youth movement, but I think Hicks was so in love with the idea of hiring Hart, that he had to raise payroll to get him in here. What I mean is, Hick keeps SAYING how much the game needs a salary cap or some such, but his actions usually run counter to that line of thinking. I guess he wants Bud to protect him from his own stupidity. Fort Dix doesn't have that kind of protection.
Park has been a disaster, but we are stuck with him and I am hoping he can turn it around in a year or two. Juando was a mistake, even when he was healthy, he was a huge hole in the lineup. When Raffy was hitting in front of him and limping, Raffy got walked in every key situation, because the other team figured Juan wouldn't beat them and even if he did, he would have to homer to get Raffy home.
I realize that Park and Juando were the top free agents last year, but if that is the best that is out there, maybe they should have just stuck their money in their pocket and waited a year to pursue anyone.
I like a free market system and I think there is alot of crying poverty by the owners that is totally false. If it were such a bad business to be in, would Jeff Loria and John Henry be jumping through hoops, breaking laws and robbing charities so that they could sell one team and buy another?
I wonder how many goons Don Selig had to send to NY to make Nelson Doubleday retract his statement, made by his lawyer in a court of law that Selig had created "phantom losses" and that MLB had "engaged in a systematic effort to undervalue baseball franchises as part of its labor-relations strategy"?
