Subject: UT.... OU.... Simms....

I don't know their reasons for ranking Texas ahead of Oklahoma. My reasons would be:

1) Oklahoma losing two of the best defensive players in their school's history, one of them being IMO the best player in the country (Roy Williams). The replacements will be capable, but you're on crack if you think they'll be as good.
2) A healthy Roy Williams at WR for Texas.
3) The maturation of Cedric Benson, who didn't become the everyday RB until *after* the Oklahoma game, where he didn't play at all. He still ran for over 1,000 yards as a true freshman, without playing in the last game and a half because of injury.

As for Chris Simms: He didn't ask for the hype, and anyone that's taken the time to listen to his interviews and what his teammates think of him, would view him as a quality individual. Neither Chris Simms or The University itself has hyped him. Your beef is apparently with the media, and they've never been known to blow anyone or anything out of proportion. Chris Simms doesn't get positive recognition solely because his dad was an NFL quarterback. It's possible that some people think highly of him because he:
1) Threw the most TD's in school history last year (in a lot less attempts than Major ever had)
2) He has the highest career completion percentage in the history of The University.
3) Barring injury, he'll finish his career with the 2nd most TD's in school history, and top 3 in passing yards and victories.
4) He was thrust into the position a lot earlier than expected. He was a sure redshirt his freshman year. Then some dude named Adam Dunn decided he didn't want to be a backup QB at Texas or convert to Tight End, so he left the school to concentrate on baseball. I hear he's doing ok for himself these days. (Mid, remind me why I traded him to you?) Anyway, with only 2 other QB's on campus (one who would eventually become a WR/special teams guy because he wasn't a good QB) they took Simms redshirt away and he sat on the bench... just in case Major got hurt.

He's had 1.5 bad games. The Oklahoma loss was as much a fault of Greg Davis's offensive gameplan, as it was Simms'. Nor was it his fault that OU's Roy Williams flew over 2 blockers to make one of the greatest plays in college football history.

I'm not going to make a prediction for October 12th... at least not right now. I haven't seen either team play, and they're vastly different from last year. Chris Simms is a good guy, and should be a quality NFL Quarterback. I hope he has a great year, because he's worked hard to put himself into this position. We'll see.
