**. Tejada not only has the numbers, he carried a team many left for dead this winter when Giambi signed with NY, with his play, his enthusiasm, and his timing with the clutch play.**

I don't buy that. Eric Chavez's OPS is about identical to Tejada's, their HR are the same, and all the stats like Runs and RBI's are team-dependent anyway. Chavez is arguably the best fielding 3rd baseman in the AL, and maybe 2nd to only Rolen in all of baseball. He has a couple more errors than Cirillo and some others, but that's what happens when you have range. Tejada on the other hand, is one of the worst fielding SS in the league. The numbers bear that out, no matter what Pete Gammons says. ARod is far superior to him in hitting AND fielding. I'd vote for Chavez before Tejada. And if Tejada was the one carrying the team, what the heck were Mulder, Hudson, Zito doing?

To me it was a close one that came down to ARod or Thome. Thome is clearly the better hitter this year, but ARod plays the more difficult position. If you replace either of them with the major league average at their position, they're likely the worst team in baseball. I chose Thome, because at least ARod had Raffy. Thome had Burks, sometimes, and he's not as good as Raffy.

Guess that's why I don't get a vote. It's not really about what player is Most Valuable to their team. You put Omar Vizquel in Tejada's place, and they're still a playoff caliber team. You put Omar in ARod's place, and the Rangers have the #1 draft pick next year.
