Granted, the A's pitching was awesome, when I say carried, I meant offensively. Yes, their numbers were very similar, but take a closer look at the numbers. Eric Chavez has only 5 fewer errors than Tejada and is somehow a defensive whiz? Not only that, while both players are close stat wise, Chavez is having almost a carbon copy of his '01 season, while Tejada has stepped it up in almost every category, most notably the 40 point jump in his average. Chavez is just doing what he does, Tejada saw the void left by Giambi and has filled it admirably.
As far as Thome goes, no doubt he may be the last old school player left in the game, one of it's greatest sluggers and definitely the games class act, but if you're even going to consider naming an MVP from a losing team, I can't see him getting even 1 1st place vote. A-Rod is simply the best player in the game, he's had the best season outside of that Bonds guy, and he deserves the hardware.
One last thing. As far as me touting Tejada being influenced by Peter Gammons, again, go back to some past SS discussions on this board and see where I stood ovr a year ago .
