Well, he is less of a jackass than Jim Gray and Rick Reilly. A buffoon, but a nice one. Oh yeah, I can't stand Jayson Stark either. A typical Jayson Stark column looks like this:

"The folks over at the Elias Sports Bureau informed me that Jim Thome is the first lefthanded hitter to have 19 of his 25 HR at night time, before the All-Star Break, and not get elected to the team during a 7 game HR streak that involved hitting HR's off two future Hall of Famers that are not lefthanded, while hitting one HR off a lefthanded former teammate during the streak, and also hitting a HR off a lefthanded Yankee that weighs over 300 lbs. Never been done before, simply amazing"

Yeah, Gammons is annoying, and he only has two sources.... Reds GM Jim Bowden, and whoever the Boston GM is. I think he feels like he has to drop obscure references to show you that even though you know more about baseball than he does, he's the one with the cool job.
