Weaver is currently the best player in the 3-way trade, but I think all 3 players the A's got could be as good or better down the line, and Pena, who the Tigers got, has the highest upside of anyone in the trade. The Tigers also got a young flamethrower Franklyn German (97-98 mph) who is still learning to harness his stuff, but has some obscene strikeout numbers in the minors. He struck out 93 in 63 innings last year, and 58 K's in 40 innings so far this year.

Also, the PTBNL that the Tigers will receive, is speculated to be either Esteban German or Bobby Crosby. Either one, would make this trade a lot better for the Tigers than it looks on the surface. Carlos Pena is going to be a very good player... 40 HR, Gold Glove type guy.

Just trying to make you feel better I guess. As usual, I think the A's made out best in this trade. John Ford-Griffin is a monster. Lilly was the 2nd best pitcher on the Yanks staff, long-term... and Jason Arnold, already at AA in his first full professional season, can bring it. I can see the A's using Lilly, maybe Lidle, in a package to get Thome now.
