According to Newberg, Jeremy Bonderman is the most likely Player To Be Named Later. He speculated that since he didn't sign until August 22 last year, he can't be traded till the same day of this year. Or it could be that the Tigers want to take a look at a number of players and pick the worst one, errrrr best one, lol.
As far as the Yankees adding stud after stud, it takes two to tango. Anyone could have had Mondesi for a song. They are paying him 3 mil this year and 6 mil net year. That isn't too horrible. Any other team could have made that deal, the Jay's weren't looking for great prospects, just someone to take that money off of their budget.
Newberg also points out, the Yankees wouldn't be able to pull off these deals like Weaver's, if they didn't do a great job of drafting and player development. A team like the Red Sox would probably love to get someone like Weaver, but they don't have anything on their farm that has enough value to get the deal done.
One thing I noticed in all of this... Can you believe that Lilly is actually older than Weaver? That kinda shocked me. One other thing that I had forgotten, the Yankees got Lilly from Montreal for Irabu. Not a bad deal for them, given what Irabu did (or didn't do) in Montreal.
