hmmm... Mel Proctor. Yeah, I've heard he's as good as gone, with the Padres probably getting Matt Vasgersian (Brewers I think?) as his replacement. Mel is... tolerable, and occasionally funny. It depends mostly on who he's teamed with. If he was announcing with Mark Grant as his color guy, he came across as just silly, as the two joked incessantly. He also has the habit of getting unneccesarily excited when a Padre player hits a fly ball. "HE HITS IT HIGH!! HE HITS IT DEEP!! and it's caught 10 feet past the infield dirt by the 2nd baseman." The longer he was here, and the better he got to know the team, the more he would repeat the same stories about players, over and over again, like the average viewer was watching a Padres' game for the first time. He was a totally different guy on his coverage for FOX, and was toned down a lot on Padres' games when he had partners in the booth other than Mark Grant. He's pretty listenable in that case... so I guess it depends on who his color guy is.

As for Tom Werner... he's a Hollywood guy. He was the executive producer of The Cosby Show, and 3rd Rock from the Sun I think. Recognized as the worst owner in San Diego sports history... even worse than Donald Sterling and his San Diego/L.A. Clippers. In the dictionary next to the word "firesale" you'll see Werner's picture. He got rid of Fred McGriff and Gary Sheffield in 1993, and Roberto Alomar before that. He'll trade Pedro and Nomah for minor leaguers in no time.
