A few things here. JP, I would actually rather see the Rangers in the west. Like the DBacks, they have built up nice rivalries with, or at least hatred for, the other teams in the West. It's not a Cowboys/Redskins thing, but it is something to look forward to/dread. Selfishly, I am a night owl, so I don't really care about when games start or finish. So time zone isn't a big concern with me. I am sure I could get worked up for a rivalry with the Indians, and before the realignment we had a nice rivalry with the White Sox going, and the Royals way back in the day.
Weas, there is a little difference in buying an NFL team and a baseball team. NFL owners are guarenteed to make a profit before they sell ticket # 1 of the year thanks to the TV deal they get. So there is a lot more of an attraction to buy an NFL team. That is also why they cost so much more than a baseball team.
I like the idea I have heard somewhere, it may have even been a report of an idea from MLB. It had Loria giving up the Spos and taking over the Drays, and MLB buying out the Angels from Disney and letting the A's assume their park, and they become the Anehiem A's.
That would mean no more Angel's and no more Expos. The A's would get to build on what they have put together in a market they have a better chance to succeed in, and the Dray's would get an owner with a little deeper pockets, but lets face it, in that town with that dump they play in, they are gonna suck no matter what.
One more thing. They CAN'T move the Dbacks to the AL. I am sorry, move the Drays to the NL. I don't care how many teams are in each league, we don't need to have the defending NL champions in the other league. That is just unstable.
