found out why my best friend in elementary school couldn't wear black patent leather shoes to church. The nuns said that the reflection would let the boys see the "area" up under her dress. We had to wear gym suits (in public school no less!) which had elastic around the bottom of the legs which were sewn up to make it look like we had shorts with pantaloons hiding under them. Oh the price of being "decent" young ladies. They were cotton and a royal pain to iron, so we took out the hem and wore the "pantaloons" down--they came down to the middle of our thighs. Now talk about being "sexy" or what LOL!!!
