I agree that "sex for the sake of sex" -- with no emotional attachment between the characters and no emotional investment in their relationship on the part of the audience -- isn't entertaining to most people. I suppose adolescent boys or dirty old men might find that entertaining, but virtually no women would and most men who are actually involved in an intimate relationship (marriage or whatever) with a woman probably wouldn't either.
As both of you know, I DID want to see Mulder and Scully share a sex scene at some point, but that was because the characters obviously cared for each other and had a history together. Seems like DD's gone from one extreme to another in the roles he plays. First he plays a man who remains celibate even when emotionally involved with a woman. Then he plays a man who has sex, but no emotional invovlement.
