Subject: Fantasy Writers

For all you fantasy fans out there, here's a few things i do when writing...
1. If you're creating your world completely from scratch (in other words, not using Earth), draw a map of it. it will help you keep track of where your characters are and where they are going.
2. Write it down- literally sit down and write everything about this world: size, shape, land areas/country divisions, religions, description of the land (where mountains/deserts/lakes/etc are), races (are the people in the south different from the north? are the people on one continent different from another?), and anything else you can think of.
3. CHARACTERS- make a list of names and some key ideas about that character, such as title of nobility, parents, children, occupation, skills, etc. Use extreme detail for all main characters, but you can be less specific on the others.
4. (This applies to all writing)- i've found that it helps me to write up an outline of major events in the order they'll happen. this helps keep it from becoming too redundant, and also helps organize your writing.
5. (this applies to all writing)- if you think of something that you might want to put in your book, even if it's much later in the story, write it down. In the middle of the night, in a restaurant, who cares! just write it down on whatever's handy (including your hand, if you have to!)
*smile*
If you have some tips of your own, please add them! :)
