Told you it was long! :) enjoy!

~***~
Krystille smiled. The Kiriev were almost done widening the little cave for her.
“WHAT ARE YOU DOING!?” a huge voice screamed from outside the cave.
“Bigboss not stop us! Cat-Lizard stop Bigboss!” Maksob yelled back confidently. Karisss growled a loud agreement.
[I wonder what fried ‘Bigboss’ tastes like…] the firedrake mused.
“Done!” Maksob said proudly, and all of the Kiriev quickly followed him behind Karisss into her secret tunnel. “We stay here, out of way,” Maksob told Krystille. She smiled and nodded to him. She hadn’t actually expected the Kiriev to want to fight.
[Up onto my back, now, little wizard!] The drake’s eyes burned with excitement. [Let’s show that foul black wizard how hot fire can really get!] Krystille grinned and climbed up, trying to find the most comfortable way to sit. [Right on my shoulders, fire-human! Hold on with your knees like you would on a horse! Don’t worry if I start to warm up. Fighting with fire uses more heat than just blasting one stream of fire. Keep your feet up, too, or you’ll trip me!] When she was finally situated to the drake’s satisfaction, Krystille began concentrating to summon her own fire. Karisss casually walked through the tunnel, pausing to poke her head around the corner.
The dark mage, the man who had enslaved the Kiriev (and apparently had no name) yelled and threw a messy spell at Karisss’s head. The drake easily dodged it, then spat a fireball in his direction. He cried out and scrambled to dodge it, and Karisss took her time leaving the cave.
[Don’t get hit by any spells, now, little wizard! I won’t have time to unravel them!] the drake said as she kept the dark mage busy with a few more fireballs.
[Don’t worry, I won’t! And you better not get hit by any spells either, because I can’t take them apart!] she told the drake. Concentrating, she summoned a fireball, holding it in her hand behind her back. The dark mage was too busy with Karisss’s fireballs to notice hers.
His eyes widened as two fireballs flew at him instead of just one. A red-orange ball of liquid flames barely missed his leg by a hand’s breadth, and a white-orange ball of magefire caught his arm. He shrieked and beat his hand furiously, throwing half-spun spells at Karisss.
Clutching his charred, blackened arm, he stared at the firedrake. “How did you do that??” he screamed. “The other wasn’t the right color! Where did it come from?”
Krystille laughed. “Open your eyes, Mystery Mage!” She prepared another ball of magefire in her hand as she continued. “Any mage can tell what is a spell, and what’s not! And a good mage can tell who is a mage, and who’s not!” As she continued to laugh, surprise and anger distorted the dark mage’s face.
He stared at Krystille in disbelief. “An Elemental?” He shrieked as a ribbon of fire kept him from running into the nearest cave. “I could use powers like yours,” he offered desperately. “The reward would be great, if you’d join me!”
“Never!” Krystille spat, throwing her fireball. She summoned her powers for a larger spell, concentrating. [Keep him busy! I need a minute for this one!] she told Karisss.
[Sure!] the drake said with a toothy grin. The dark mage blanched and started to back away. Karisss spat two fireballs, arcing one over his head to land behind him, and shooting the other to land directly in front of him. He scrambled to dodge her attacks, barely noticing Krystille’s lapse in attacks.
Krystille grinned, forming a spell and putting it to use. A white-hot wall of flames grew up out of the floor in a large circle around them, trapping all three inside. The dark mage, who had been backing away from them, nearly ran into the wall before freezing in his tracks. “You can’t do this to me!” he screamed
For the second time since she’d met him, he was able to make his spell much neater. The binding spell caught her with enough force to knock her off of Karisss and leave her helpless on the floor.
Karisss growled furiously, moving to stand over Krystille and protect her. “How cute!” the dark mage taunted. “It has grown fond of the silly little girl! The stories of girls taming dragons may have some substance after all!”
The fire drake’s eyes narrowed angrily. “You stupid human!” she growled in the human language. How she hated speaking in that language! But she must, for this human didn’t seem to understand Mindspeech. “You won’t escape alive if I have my way!” she threatened.
“Oh, we’ll see about that, my fine lizard,” he said, pulling out a strange, golden object…

Taran finally crawled out of the tiny hole that the tunnel had become. Two anxious kittens wriggled impatiently as he dusted himself quickly. “Where to now?” he asked Pyro. The kitten shifted uncomfortably.
[I wish I knew… What’s that??] the little kitten was staring behind Taran, eyes wide.
Taran turned to see what was so surprising, and immediately knew what it was. A wall of white-hot fire blocked up the southern end of the cave from wall to wall and floor to ceiling. “That’s where Krystille is,” he said. “That’s got to be one of her spells.”
“What is?” Marrin and Anialle had made it out of the tiny tunnel now, and were dusting each other off. They looked up, following Taran’s gaze to the firewall. “Oh… How are we gonna get through, though?” Marrin asked.
“Don’t know about you two, but I can probably get through it,” Taran said, walking towards the flames.
“What makes you so sure, Taran?” Anialle asked. “What if you can’t get through, and you burn yourself to a crisp? Krystille would never forgive us for letting you try.”
“I’m immune to all of her other spells, aren’t I?” They’d reached the wall now, but could hear no sounds from behind it, nor could they see anything through it. Taran cautiously held a hand up to the wall, trying to ignore Marrin’s worrying and Anialle’s scolding. It didn’t feel the slightest bit warm to him. He put his hand into the flaming wall, and pulled it out again. Nothing. No burns, no marks, absolutely nothing. He grinned, holding his hand up for the girls to see. “Look, not one burn. I’m going through, now. Stay right here, maybe I can get her to take down part of the wall so you can come through.”
Before they could protest, he summoned all his courage and jumped straight through the firewall. Pyro and Embyr looked at each other, then jumped after him, leaving a worried Marrin and Anialle to wait alone.

Karisss stared transfixed at the golden medallion in the dark mage’s hands. So beautiful… she thought, eyes wide. She didn’t even notice that the man had come closer. She didn’t notice when he drew a long dagger out of his belt. He came closer, sure that he had won, and the drake would be dead in only moments.
A figure burst through the flames, barreling into the hypnotized drake. Karisss grunted as the man swore. The figure looked up in time to see the mage leaping for the drake’s throat, and threw him back with a powerful blast of water. Half of his spell dumped over Karisss’s head, destroying what remained of the spell on her.
-----FIGHT-----SEE BELOW------

in the end i basically have two options: They win, or the Mystery Mage gets away. But the details of how they fight and who fights have lots of options :)
Please give me all the ideas you can think of, and let me know what you like best :)
Thanks to all who respond!
