Here's what i thought of for the fight in chapter 2....
-------------

Karisss stared transfixed at the golden medallion in the dark mage’s hands. So beautiful… she thought, eyes wide. She didn’t even notice that the man had come closer. She didn’t notice when he drew a long dagger out of his belt. He came closer, sure that he had won, and the drake would be dead in only moments.
A figure burst through the flames, barreling into the hypnotized drake. Karisss grunted as the man swore. The figure looked up in time to see the mage leaping for the drake’s throat, and threw him back with a powerful blast of water. Half of his spell dumped over Karisss’s head, destroying what remained of the spell on her. The firedrake shook her head like she was just waking up, then her eyes snapped open to look directly at the mage who had nearly killed her. He had been thrown back nearly into the firewall, and thoroughly soaked somehow… come to think of it, so had she! [How did I get all wet?] she wondered, slipping into mindspeech without thinking.
[Sorry about that… Can’t talk now, though!] Where did that voice come from? Karisss shook her head again and stood up, catching sight of a new human as she did. A young man stood beside her, watching the wet mage carefully. He glanced over at her and grinned. [Hi there] he said. [I’m hoping you’re on my side, because I don’t think I could win against you!]
The drake considered him for a moment with her large, amber eyes, then said, [If you’re here to help Krystille, then we fight together.] The young man glanced at Krystille, still frozen by the evil mage’s spell, then threw another blast of water at the mage, who was just getting up. Karisss grinned at him. [What is your name, human?] she asked.
[Taran,] he told her, glaring at the mage. Water dropped out of thin air and fell all over the already-soaked mage, who was spluttering and coughing now.
[Taran,] the drake repeated. [Well, if you can keep the other wizard busy, I can take his spell off of Krystille. Then both of us will help you.] She looked at him, ready to place her life in his hands.
He nodded. [You can trust me,] he said, deep blue eyes locking with large amber ones. Karisss blinked slowly, then turned her attention to Krystille. As she worked, Taran dropped more water on the mage.
Suddenly, with a yowl unbelievably loud for such small things, two kittens flew through the firewall. They flew over Krystille and landed between her and the drake. Without a word, they raced underneath the drake towards Taran. They were about to leap at the soaked mage, but the sight of all the wetness discouraged the poor firekittens. They flattened their ears against their heads, yowling insults at the mage instead.
Karisss smiled to herself, returning to the spell that held Krystille. It was only marginally better than the last one, and would probably only take her a few minutes to remove. As she undid the last bits of spell holding her, she sensed another spell coming undone… As soon as she finished, she looked up as Krystille slowly sat and rubbed her head. Karisss’s eyes widened when she located the disintegrating spell. Krystille’s firewall was coming down!
[Taran!] she called, spitting a fireball to attract the wet mage’s attention. Wet rocks hissed and steamed as the man scrambled and slipped in an attempt to dodge. He just barely moved in time. Taran looked over at Karisss for a moment to acknowledge he’d heard, then returned his attention to the mage. [Taran, the firewall is coming down! I don’t know if Krystille will be able to put it back up again, so be ready to stop that man from leaving!]
[All right!] Taran said, flattening the mage to the ground with some more water. [I should be fine even if the wall does come down, because then Marrin and Anialle can help.] He glanced over again to find Karisss helping Krystille to stand up and climb on her back.
[You, too!] Karisss said. [She can’t stay up on her own, the spell left her weak. Climb up behind her, wizard, now!] Dropping a last spell on the soaked and spluttering mage, he ran over and climbed up, hooking one arm around Krystille to support her, but leaving the other free to continue casting spells. Krystille leaned back on him, stretching slightly. Pyro and Embyr immediately jumped up into their laps, carefully avoiding the still-wet rocks.
[You came after me…] Krystille’s mindvoice was faint.
[How could I not?] he asked, kissing her gently. Kariss had moved closer to the white and trembling mage now. He looked around him with new hope in his eyes when he noticed the firewall spell was unraveling. "Don’t even think about it!" Taran shouted at him. [Force him back around to where we’re standing… then he’ll be surrounded when the wall is gone] Taran told Karisss. The firedrake advanced towards the evil mage, who scrambled backwards to get away. He whistled shrilly, and a horse’s neigh echoed through the caverns.
The firewall reached only halfway to the ceiling now, and was definitely less hot. Hoofbeats began to echo through the caves now, like the sound of diamond striking stone. A wild scream pierced the air, and all heads turned in its direction.
Marrin and Anialle, who could just see over the firewall now, also turned toward the source of the sound. They yelled and jumped to the side to avoid the stampeding black horse charging at them. No… not a horse… a black unicorn! The unicorn jumped what remained of the firewall and skidded to a halt on the wet rocks. It snorted, eyes glowing wildly as it glared at Karisss and her passengers.
"NightMare!" the mystery mage shouted. "To me, my beauty!" The black unicorn looked at him, then leaped to his side in one powerful spring. He scrambled up onto the unicorn’s back, grinning. "We will meet again," he said, guiding the unicorn back and away from Karisss.
"Stop him!" Taran shouted as the mystery mage suddenly kicked his heels into the unicorn. His mount leaped over the barrier of fire, racing away from Karisss’s growl. The firedrake spat fireballs after him, bunching her legs like a cat and leaping over the firewall. The unicorn screamed his anger as fireballs singed his tail.
Krystille glared coldly at the man on the unicorn’s back. She yelled and pointed, and all of his clothes burst into flames. He shrieked and fell off of the bucking unicorn. NightMare raced on as soon as her flaming burden was gone.
"No! Get back here!" the man shrieked. "You can’t do this to me!" He looked back at the sound of Karisss’s growl and scrambled to get away from the enraged drake. He leaped to his feet. "This isn’t over!" he yelled, pulling out a strange vial of a muddy brown liquid. He smashed the vial on the rocks, and a thick brown cloud rose up to surround him. He laughed, saying, "We will meet again, firewitch!" When the cloud cleared, he was gone.
"Damn! We lost him!" Taran said grumpily. By now, the firewall was completely gone, and Marrin and Anialle could join them. "We never even found out who he was, unless you know." Krystille shook her head as Marrin and Anialle walked up.
"Who was that?" Anialle asked. "He didn’t look too friendly." She frowned at the brown puddle that remained on the rocks.
Krystille laughed, "We don’t know!" The girls grinned.
"Who’s your friend?" Marrin asked, walking up to Karisss’s head. The firedrake blinked slowly, inspecting Marrin with great care.
[I am Karisss, young wizard,] the drake said. [What is your name?]
Marrin smiled. [I am Marrin. How did you know I am a mage?] she asked.
[Magical humans have a certain… scent to them, that other humans don’t] the drake told her. [Hmmm, your scent is… cold!] The drake sneezed. [You are not the same kind of wizard as Krystille or Taran. What is your power?] Karisss sounded genuinely curious.
[I have ice powers,] Marrin told her. She shot an ice spear at a rock wall to demonstrate.
