Traumatizing the new nail with excessive pressure, friction, or chemicals. Getting a "Fill" for artificial nails is a prime example of this. It is not unusual for the replacement nail(s) to be damaged because of this process.

Improper use of manicure products especially nail strengtheners. Learn how to use products properly. Understand your nail type, condition, and treat it based on today's evaluation. You can treat sections of the nails and individual nails when you do your manciure. Keep in mind that your nail tip(free edge) is 3-6 months old and is the driest part of the nail.

Allowing a manicure to wear and chip off the nail before replacing it will cause damage. Worn areas are water traps. Chipped areas pull the top layer of the nail up as it catches against surfaces. Both can lead to peeling.

Whenever possible slide fingertips under an object to grasp it. Do not use nail tips to pick things up.

Reaching for something while looking somewhere else.... Watch what you are doing!

Digging for keys or other heavy object located at the bottom of your purse without looking at what you are doing. Use your eyes to help your hands. Lift items out of your way if necessary. Organize your purse so keys are easily located.

Reaching for a car door handle, without grasping the door handle completely, will yank nails from the nail bed if the door handle slips from your grasp. Feel the handle in the center of your hand before pulling open the door.

Not wearing gloves during cold weather. Keep an extra pair in your car. If you change purses, keep a set with each purse.
