Actually, if you keep your left arm straight and you pull in the right arm, the left arm will move across your body. Then if you straighten your right arm, keeping the left arm straight, the left arm will be pushed for forward. This is (from my non-NGCI understanding) the essence of the NG swing. I think what Peter is saying is that if the left arm resists a little, then when the right arm comes back it will raise the club into a position roughly perpendicular with your left arm (depending on how much range of motion you have in your left wrist). It also stores a little energy (or at least it feel like it does), which when released at the proper moment adds a considerable "pop" or boost to impact.

I suspect (not having tried this much on the range, just on a piece of carpet remnant in my driveway) that the key to making this work is having the proper setup so that the natural result of this "pulling" and "popping" is on plane.
