I don't know how to make this not accusatory. I guess all I can preface it with is the statement that I'm far from perfect, and claim to be no holier, smarter, or whatever than the rest of you.
Having said that, I think many of the postings in this string are riddled with the same sorts of pseudo-logic that you are accusing others of.
#1) It might be that Paul believes we shouldn't follow the Tao Te Ching, The Koran, etc; but I didn't see him say that. I just saw him say that we should follow the bible. And that's a fair thing to say.
#2) The title "Christian" has been stolen by a group which is arguably a minority; a group with a specific political, theological, and social agenda. Their Christology arises more from post-biblical councils than ideas espoused by Jesus and those who new Jesus. I don't debate thier right to call themselves Christian. I do take issue with the fact that they claim to be the only Christians. And what is worse, people opposed to them buy the lie, smearing the name of all those seek to follow Christ the man, not the church.
#3) Science tells us lots of stuff. It gives us lots of toys. It doesn't tell us how to play with them. As science makes humanity powerful enough to destroy his planet, to reach the stars and corrupt them, we should be thankful for religion's vitality. Yes, it is abused. But I submit we would be in rough shape with out it.
#4) Lona, you agree with Serpent, "yes it is stronger than ever"; this implies surprise, or condemnation that Christians can hold their views in an age of science. Yet you are a believer in divine influences; how is it that a Christian shouldn't believe but you should?
