Actually, I disagree. "Trial By Fire" is the best ballad of the entire album, if not the best song. The lyric is more poetic and the melody and the vocal is strong and memorable. Neals jazzy guitar really shines here. I heard a live version on JIFR internet radio sung by Steve Augueri in the 2001 arrival tour; the live version of this song was much more spiritual and has a requiem like quality to it. It was very moving emotionally to hear it live and I think that it is actually a nice song to dedicate to the 9/11 victims and families. It's too bad Steve Perry is not there to sing it because it would be even better with Steve Perry's stronger and more emotional vocals.
