I really learned a lot from our class discussion on slavery reparation because I haven't heard much about them (only that a convention took place in Africa regarding this issue in which US did not attend). I agree with you guys that cash reparations are not the way to make up for the past. Instead of proposing these cash reparations it is important to understand and acknowledge what has happened in the past and make sure such discriminations told occur again.

Most Americans think of slavery as the past --> something that happened a long time ago and is not our fault. But in reality we as Americans have to acknowledge what has happened in the past and teach our future generations about it. I remember watching a movie in which an African American is placed on the curb with his mouth open and a white man steps on his teeth. I could never forget that scene and still imagine how it would feel to be in that position. I believe things like these that have happened to slaves should be acknowledged by the American society to actually make us know and feel what African Americans have been through.

I went off a little on the topic but bascially I feel cash reparations are not the mean to apologize for the past and certainity don't prove anything. On the other hand, i don't think anything could make up for want we have done in the past also. As Professor Boaz said, making a museum or momuentum would be a good idea because it will teach people about the past. But I believe much more is needed to be done to fix our past wrongs.
