Subject: Slavery

All this talk about slavery reparations for events that have happened over a century ago is frankly ticking me off. Some say that we need to pay the family members of former slaves and others say we should instead just remember what happened so we don't repeat history.

Excuse my language, but FUCK THAT! Everytime you buy Nike shoes, or Gap pants, or get yourself a Taco, you perpetuate slavery. Slavery isn't a thing of the past, because we're still committing it. Even in this very city, there are sweat shops where illegal immigrants work long hours, with no wages in order to pay back their forroom and board as well as the fees for them to end up in "The Land of the Free". Don't you just love the irony?

When I hear of people asking for reparations for crimes of the past, I just get enraged. Do you see me asking to be paid for those that were interned for years at Angel Island? Do you see me whining for money because of all those exploited Chinese immigrants that died or suffered during the building of our transcontinental railroad system? NO! Because it's stupid to. What's done is done, we just need to learn from it. But judging from what I see, we're all pretty stupid and haven't learned a damned thing from our past. I'm sorry to just go off on everyone in general like this, but it's just so frustrating to see people griping about little matters of the past when there are major matters in the present that need to be addressed.

There are starving children dying around the world, some in this country. There are millions exploited...hell, billions. If you want to look at slavery in all different aspects, we in some aspects are slaves to the government and large corporations. Well, I'm too riled up right now to get into further debate... I'm gonna wait till I cool off a bit... But we should all just step back and look at the big picture before nitpicking at little things...
