hi keith,

i do iagree with you that saddam is posing a threat to the us and other countries, and he needs to be replaced.
however i think it would be really unwise to go in and "take him out" by using some sort of assasination squad without having come up with a successor. the us has made that mistake before by going in and kill or replace dictators, leaving countries in political and social turmoil. we all know how the taliban came to power and how the us are now using great resources of erasing thier own replacements.
so if the us decides to take saddam out of the picture in the nearest future it will take a serious amount of responsibility to assure that a similar afgahnistan scenario will accur.
i would rather see a stronger united coalition of western and middle-eastern countries (more consistent then today) forcing saddam to recognize international demands through economic and political emobargos and blockades. If this coalition is successful in acting together, saddam has no opportunity but to listen. An ultimate goal for such a coalition should be to influence iraq's population to turn against saddam and favour alternatives.
and this is the time to do it, while the world is joining the us agianst terrorism!
This might seem unrealistic at the time being, but it will take no longer then it will to follow up an assasination of saddam and the responsibilities that follows.

one question for you keith: do you think that the us can successfully take saddam out? I'm just being sceptical having in mind that we have no idea where bin laden is today, a man far less powerful then saddam!!

looking foreward to discussion

jorgen
