Subject: Newbie Help!

Hello.
Me and my friend recently brought Squad leader, Cross of iron, Crescendo of doom and GI anvil of victory at a show.
We´ve only played through the original squad leader senarios but we´re already hooked!
So we´re thinking about ASL.
And our question is: What exactly is ASL? is it a new rulebook or simpliy a compliation of all the squadleader rules?
Couild we just buy a ASL modul and start playing our do we have to buy the ASL rulebook to?
