ASL is a system that is based on SL but with many modifications. Folks tend to prefer to play either SL or ASL, although there are a few who play both.

SL will tend to play faster than ASL.

One description is that SL is designed based on "gaming for effect" while ASL is based on "gaming for cause."

Elaborating ... SL tends to be most concerned with the end result of an action (say an attack) while ASL provides a more elaborate system where it is possible to know _which_ weapon´s attack caused _which_ specific casualty.

As an intermediate step, I would suggest that you try CoI (Cross of Iron) to see if you like this more detailed representation of guns and armor.

Remember ... SL is primarily an infantry game. CoI is a good elaboration on this infantry game that provides better gun-armor interaction. If you go with ASL you will be firing at infantry as if they were moving like vehicles in SL/CoI. This change presents many complications, including the requirement to make _all_ moves fully interactive with your opponent (hence the slower pace).

Not a great description, but perhaps a start.
