Subject: rule question

Greetings,

I'm new to SL/ASL and a couple of the rules aren't clear to me.

1) I know a leader can fire SW's, but can a leader attack on his own in the prep fire and/or advancing fire phases? If so, what is his firepower and range? Is it 1 like in close combat?

2) If close combat is dual participation and simultaneous (as per 20.2), does the defending player(the one whose player turn it isn't) get to attack with any units remaining after the attacking player(the one whose player turn it is) attacks? Do they roll on the close combat table simultaneously? I'm confused!
Also, must all units in an enemy occupied hex participate in close combat? Do all units have to attack/be attacked?

If any one could help(especially with CC) I'd be greatly obliged.

Thanks,
Joshua Y.
