Subject: LOS conundrum
In reply to: Mark Dyson 's message, "Hello and a question" on 19:11:54 02/01/04 Sun

I'm almost positive this sort of LOS question was raised and answered in some official way, but for the life of me I can't find it so here I am. This bears on some of my confusion as I work to resolve the disparity between hex-based and image-based movement and LOS. Not trying (too hard) to be difficult, honest! :-D

Looking at board 1, picture a German squad with a LMG in the wooden building in hex X7. Now picture two Russian squads, one in the large stone building in hex W5 and another in the wooden building in hex V4. My hazy understanding of the LOS rules thus far leads me to a paradox as follows:

Fire directed from X7 towards the squad in building V4 has an unobstructed LOS; on the other hand, were the squad in W5 move directly to occupy the wooden building in V5 they, although conceptually having just crossed open ground in full view of the German LMG squad, would seem to be only vulnerable to defensive opportunity fire after taking cover in building V5.

Am I correct in seeing this situation as just 'one of those things' that are unavoidable in the rules sets, or is there a ruling and/or special case that I've just not yet stumbled across?

As ever, thanks much in advance.

All the best!
Mark
