Sarah Chianese co-founded PassionPlace in 1992, after working in artistic and technical capacities with other regional theatre groups. Coming from an artistic family, it is all but impossible for Sarah to function in any capacity without seeing the world through an artistic vision. Hence, her desire to integrate all art forms and bringing other artist’s visions to the community through live performance. Her credits include working as Producer, Director, Actor, as well as in technical capacities ranging from stage design to lights and wardrobe, for such companies as PassionPlace, Performing Arts of Woodstock (PAW), Rhinebeck Theatre Society, Common Stage Theatre, Ensemble Studio Theatre (summer program) and others. She has served as Board Member for PassionPlace and PAW. She has produced, directed, and provided casting for the Hudson Valley Film Festival from 1996-1998, and assisted with the Woodstock Film Festival for their 2000 and 2001.
Sarah has worked directly with and produced original works by notable award winning writers, such as David Rabe and Frank D. Gilroy; produced fully staged readings of original screenplays by Ken Topolsky, Dan Lauria, and others; has produced various productions featuring original works by local writers, as well as new writers from other parts of the country. She has produced shows which have had new artists/directors work with highly established actors, such as Dominic Chianese (Sr. and Jr.), Charles Durning, Dennis Farina, Christopher Noth, Dan Lauria, and others. She strives to give artists and art technicians, of all ages, the opportunity to get their messages heard in a positive and fervent fashion. She dedicates a large sense of herself to saving children through the arts in her long-term plans, and raises her most precious art forms, her two children, in the same fashion. She is a founding member of the Hudson Valley Sudbury School in Woodstock, NY, and firmly believes that curiosity based education and freedom through responsibility is an ideal approach, and operates PassionPlace much in the same fashion. Finally, Sarah has been involved with live jazz since 1984, producing many live performances, was a jazz radio DJ in Binghamton and continues to support live music of many genres.
Sarah is honored to be a part of bringing Aqiyl Thomas’ work to the forefront in this multi-media event, and encouraging the universal messages of the elements he brings forth: Love, Birth, Spirituality and Consciousness as a commonality of all peoples. In the words of spoken word artist/musician/performer, Michael Franti: Stay Human!
