I agree completely that the point about being fourth in the league in terms of both RPI and standings will in fact probably leave us out of the NIT this year. And for all intents and purposes we are "locked" into fourth right now. We can't really move up (barring a TOTAL collapse by UIC which could get us a tie for third and then with a split against them maybe we would win the tiebreaker)and we probably won't move down even if we lose at Loyola as long as we take care of our home court the rest of the way.
I guess in this respect our only hope would be to finish in a tie for third and then go farther than UIC in the HL tourney.
An opinion on RPI: since they do not factor where a game is played into this analysis, again this hurts teams like U-D. My opinion is that geting a "W" in Green Bay on a Saturday night "payback atmosphere" game two days after they've stomped someone else is a nice win. You know Green Bay is going to be up for this game, we win anyway but our RPI actually drops. Now, I agree that beating Wright State Thursday should do nothing good for our RPI. It's a game we shoud win easily, I'll be the first to admit that. It's a game we should win by double digits. Everyone then points to Butler. I rate the Butler game as a game we should win also - payback, homecoming, all that stuff and I see a fired-up Titan victory. Yet if I'm right about the game our RPI jumps. In my opinion the Loyola game is a tougher one right now on paper than Butler, but RPI-wise, Butler has more impact. I realize it's difficult to factor all the emotion of league play, "payback" etc. into an objective rating system, but at least home court vs. the road should be part of it. Remember, we play many more road games than home games so this hurts us over the long run.
