I wanna lay you down in a bed of roses
For tonight I'll sleep on a bed of nails
I wanna be just as close as the Holy Ghost is
And lay you down
On a bed of roses

He felt a sense of relief when she agreed to remain friendly. Though he'd spent ten years without her physical presence in his life, he had not spend a single day without her in his heart--a truth that had been there from the beginning. He would never be able to purge her from his heart, and didn't even want to try. He'd accepted that she'd always own that piece of him, the same as he'd come to terms with the likelihood she would never feel that way from him again. He just didn't know if he'd have been able to handle it if she had denied him her friendship.
He nodded as she spoke of assuming his death. "You weren't wrong to assume it. I think for a while, a part of me really did die back there." Sphinx had been the one that had been like granite, seemingly infinite in his strength. He could only imagine what the women had thought to learn of his supposed death. "Yes, she will." He spoke of their daughter in agreement. "She may be an adult...but I don't plan on giving up." He wouldn't, not this time.
He listened with mild surprise when she spoke of Sway being just upstairs. His surprise grew to concern when she told him of their friend's amnesia. "If anyone will jog her memory, it will probably be Memphis. They were always close." He didn't press the issue on the how's and why's of the matter, knowing he'd have the chance to ask soon enough.
When she asked if she should call the women down, he could see the question shining in her hazel eyes--would he stay? That he was virtually minutes away from reconnecting with a piece of his past he thought he'd never see again was enough to make his heart pick up pace, but was not enough to make him leave. She would not be left to face this alone. "You go right ahead. I'm going to wash up in the men's room. I didn't sleep too great last night...a cold splash of water might do me some good." He would use the time to get his bearings, gather his thoughts, and face what was next for them, as well.
