yes, punk and thrash/speed/death metal did unite against poser/glam shit.

I grew up in the bay area and saw dave mustaine with metallica<1981), watched exodus rise to fame<1982), then saw kirk leave for metallica. Liked exodus better with ricky and gary anyhow. saw possessed rise and fall. testament, death angel, slayer, dark angel, voi-vod, destruction, anthrax, and so on.

punk played a heavy hand in influencing alot of this new thrash/speed stuff.

but there was always a team effort agaisnt, bands like poison, cinderella and winger.
